A 25-year-old cab driver, who was abducted by his employer to recover the money he owed him, was rescued by the city police in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Based on a complaint, a team of police intercepted the gang and nabbed eight people, including Abhilash - the cab driver’s employer, at Bellur cross toll gate. Abhilash was later rushed to the K.C. General Hospital as the abductors had beaten him and even stabbed him with a knife when he resisted the abduction.

“Inquiries revealed that the accused Ajay had rented out his car to Abhilash, who failed to give him his commission,” said a police officer. Enraged, Ajay, along with his friends, allegedly abducted Abhilash and called up his family asking them to pay the money owed for his safe return.

The family approached the police, who laid a trap and caught Ajay and his associates within four hours of the abduction.

The accused have been taken taken into custody.
