Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra has said that 39 tanks under the zilla panchayat jurisdiction will be rejuvenated. A sum of Rs. 1.25 crore has been released under ‘Kere Sanjeevini’ scheme for the purpose, he told reporters on Wednesday.

The work on developing rajakaluves and evicting the encroachments will be launched soon. Improving drinking water condition and recharging ground water level are the main objectives of the scheme.

There are 2,338 tanks in the district. Nine tanks in Kolar taluk, 10 each in Malur and Bangarpet taluks and five each in Mulbagal and Srinivasapur taluks will be developed under this project.

Easy flow of water to the tanks after clearing the encroachments and cleaning of rajakaluves will not only help increase the groundwater level, but also give a new lease of life to the borewells of the farmers in the vicinity of those tanks, he said. The government wants the works completed by June 15, he added.

Zilla panchayat deputy secretary Lakshminarayan was present.
