The Yelahanka New Town police arrested a 33-year-old BCA graduate for duping two aspiring models and making off with their gold chains and other valuables.

He robbed them under the pretext of shooting their images for their modelling portfolio.

The accused, C.R. Arun Kumar alias Rajeev, is a resident of Muneshwara Layout in Attur Layout in Yelahanka New Town, and was unemployed.

According to the police, the women in their complaint said that they saw messages on social networking sites that reputed agencies were looking for new models for advertisements.

The messages were posted from a woman’s account on the website. However, when they called on the given mobile number, a person who identified himself as Rajeev, asked them to come to a park in Yelahanka New Town for a photo shoot.

How he tricked them

“During the shoot, he asked the women to remove their gold jewellery, saying it would not look good in the photographs. He asked them to allow him to keep the jewellery in his car and said that he would return it once the shoot was over. In the middle of the shoot, he escaped from the park on the pretext of getting another lens. He also changed his SIM card so that they could not call him on his phone,” the police said.

Fake account

Arun Kumar allegedly confessed to the crime when questioned, and said that he had created a fake profile in his wife’s name to avoid suspicion.

The police have recovered goods worth Rs 5.3 lakh from the accused including a car, camera, mobile phone, and two gold chains that belong to the women.
