The Taverekere police on Tuesday cracked a two-year-old double murder that occurred in Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh while questioning two men whom they had recently arrested for stealing an SUV in Nagenahalli in June 2017.

During the course of the investigation into the theft of the SUV, the police questioned Abhishek, a 20-year-old cab driver, and Naveen, a 21-year-old student who lives in Tavekere but is from Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. They claimed to have sold the SUV to Shakti Arasan from Salem, Tamil Nadu.

Police went to Salem and found that Arasan had two SUVs, one of which was the vehicle stolen in Nagenahalli. When questioned about the second SUV, Asaran claimed to have bought it from his associate Prithviraj, 21, who lives in Bengaluru but hails from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

“We questioned Prithviraj who claimed that the SUV belonged to a couple,” said the police. In 2015, he, along with Mithun, a taxi driver from Hindupur, had allegedly murdered the president of a minorities committee and his girlfriend. “They sold the victim’s SUV to Arasan,” said the police.

After committing the crimes, Prithviraj relocated to Bengaluru. He and Mithun have been arrested for murder while Arasan has been arrested for receiving stolen goods.
