To ensure no untoward incidents during the Independence Day celebrations at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground here on Tuesday, 1,200 police personnel will be deployed.

Announcing this on Sunday, N. Manjunath Prasad, commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and chairperson of the I-Day celebrations committee, said that the civic body, along with the district administration and the Education Department, will organise cultural programmes.

The celebrations will begin at 9 a.m. with the hoisting of the national flag by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while an IAF helicopter will shower flowers.

This year, 34 contingents, including one of the Kerala police, schoolchildren, scouts and guides, NCC and Sevadal, will present the guard of honour to the Chief Minister.

This will be followed by cultural programmes presented by 2,700 schoolchildren.

Mr. Prasad said that on-site and off-site disaster management cells have been formed to tackle any eventuality.

Ambulances, medical personnel and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services will be stationed at the spot.

Due to security reasons, invitees and public attending the programme have been requested not to bring mobile phones, helmets, cameras, radio, umbrellas.

Those found to be carrying these items will not be allowed inside the parade grounds.

Traffic diversions

Traffic will be diverted from BRV Junction to Kamaraj Road (both directions) on Cubbon Road between 8.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Vehicles from Infantry Road should take a left at Safina Plaza, proceed to Kamaraj Road-Dickenson Road junction, turn right at K.R. Road junction and turn left to Cubbon Road and proceed onwards to Manipal Centre Junction. Those coming from Manipal Centre junction going towards BRV junction have to take a left at K.R. Road junction towards Cauvery Art and Crafts Circle junction, turn right to M.G. Road and proceed ahead.

Those coming from Anil Kumble Circle towards Cubbon Road will have to go straight towards Central Street junction, turn right to Infantry Road, turn left at Safina Plaza towards Dispensary Road, turn right to proceed to K.R. Road junction, turn left towards Cubbon Road.

Vehicles from Coffee Board moving towards BRV Junction should proceed towards Safina Plaza, turn left at Main Guard Road, turn right to Dispensary Road, right towards K.R. Road junction and take a left towards Cubbon Road.
