11-year-old girl killed by speeding motorcyclist

An 11-year-old girl was killed on the spot when a speeding motorcycle knocked her down on the outskirts of Devanahalli on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Anju, daughter of Venugopal and resident of Avathi village, was returning home after fetching drinking water from a nearby tap.

The biker identified as Nikesh, a music teacher from Bengaluru, who was heading to Nandi Hills was reportedly riding in a rash and negligent manner when he knocked her down. Anju sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot, while Nikesh lost control over his motorcycle and crashed on the road.

Agitated villagers caught Nikesh, tied him to a pole and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

Traffic movement on the national highway was disrupted for over an hour, as villagers blocked vehicular movement, protesting against the girl’s death.

The police have arrested Nikesh on the charges of death due to negligence. Further investigations are on.
