The Zilla Parishad general body meeting on Wednesday unanimously resolved declaration of the district as drought-hit by the government in view of the adverse seasonal conditions. Chairperson Lalam Bhavani said the proposal would be sent to the government.

Anakapalle MLA Peela Govinda Satyanaryana raised the issue stating drought conditions prevailed with inadequate rainfall preventing sowing of crops and wanted the district to be declared drought-hit.

Stating that the report submitted at the meeting reflected poorly on the working of the Agriculture Department, MLC M V V S Murthy wanted it to tone up its performance and serve farmers better.

Mungapaka ZPTC Lakshminarayana alleged that 800 acres of land was encroached upon at Nagavaram in the mandal by tamperig land-records. He said a complaint was given to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to go into land grabbing and tampering of records and alleged so far no action had been taken.
