YSRC organised dharnas in the city and several mandals on Monday as part of a State-wide agitation demanding that the government provide drinking water to the people in view of the severe summer and drought conditions prevailing in the State.
At the dharna held in front of the GVMC main office building here, district president of the party Gudivada Amarnath said 350 mandals in the State were experiencing drought but the government failed to react to the situation and Chief Minister was keeping quiet even as other States were constructing irrigation projects across the rivers that flow into the State.
Party leaders Tynala Vijayakumar, Malla Vijaya Prasad, Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy, Koyya Prasada Reddy, Vamskrishna Srinivas, Kola Guruvulu, John Wesley, Kampa Hanok, Karri Sitaram and others participated in the dharna along with a large number of party workers.
Women among them held empty vessels.
When the party workers tried to storm into the GVMC office the police, present in large numbers, prevented them and later allowed a few leaders to enter the building and submit a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar. Dharnas were held at Anakapalle, Elamanchili, Pendurthi and others places.
