History of the old central jail and memories relating it will be preserved and displayed at the YSR VUDA Central Park coming up on the jail site.

“Photographs, history, and information of the jail should be collected and displayed at the VUDA office until the park is ready and later shifted there,” Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj told officials on Thursday.

“In view of its 100-year history, it will be of great interest to visitors as well as general public, and hence it should be gathered and displayed,” he told a meeting of engineering and forest officials. It will be another attraction to visitors.

With tenders already finalised, the need of the hour is to firm up the plans and ensure that execution goes as per the schedule.

Dr. Yuvaraj asked the forest wing to take up plantation and develop greenery to enrich the park’s ecology.

“Plantation, along the jogging and cycling tracks, pathways, and other identified locations, has to be taken up immediately keeping the rainy season in view,” he said. He further directed them to plan for green cover wherever civil works were not proposed to complete the development of the park.

VUDA Chief Engineer I. Viswanatha Rao, DFO S. Rammohan, and Executive Engineer V. Bhavani Shankar were present.
