Almost two years after Sruthi alias Anu alias Anusha, transgender, died under mysterious circumstances, Surada Yellaji, local TDP leader and president of the Hijra (Transgender) Association, was arrested and sent to remand for allegedly murdering her.

Anusha had gone missing from the city sometime in the first week of September in 2015 and was allegedly killed by Yellaji and three others at Atchayammapeta area in the city on September 24 and the body of Anusha was cremated secretly somewhere in Malkapuram area.

The police then had registered a case under Section 201 of IPC and Section 174 of CrPC on October 25, based on a complaint filed by a woman G Jyothi, resident of Atchayammapeta and neighbour of Anusha.

But then the police had registered the case as suspicious death.

Two years later the Commissioner of Police T. Yoganand had got the case reopened and the prima facie evidence suggest that Anusha had died due to extreme torture inflicted allegedly by Yellaji and three other transgenders.

According to ACP (East) A. Narasimha Murthy there are enough evidences suggesting Yellaji’s alleged involvement in the murder of Anusha.

Yellaji was also arrested for allegedly trying to force a 25-year-old man to become a transgender.
