Woman’s murder: son detained on suspicion

A mechanical engineer of a private company was detained by the police on Sunday on the suspicion of his involvement in the brutal murder of his mother.

The decomposed body of L. Jayalakshmi, 46, a widow, who was allegedly throttled to death over a property dispute, was recovered from the storeroom of a house at Ashoknagar in Gajuiwaka area. The murder allegedly took place on March 20.

Police recovered the body on a complaint by residents of the area after they had felt unbearable stench.

The accused – L. Rajasekhar — was being interrogated. Earlier, a missing person complaint was lodged by Rajyalakshmi, daughter of the deceased.

Inspector of Gajuwaka M. Appa Rao said they were yet to establish the motive behind the killing.

The body was sent to King George Hospital for post-mortem. A case of suspicious death was been registered.
