Adding to the tourist attraction of the city, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority will soon begin work on developing two new beaches.
The major project is developing the beach at Thotlakonda, close to the well-known Buddhist site. It will be a significant addition since the development is expected to be taken up on 17 acres by the VUDA and the Tourism Department.
“We plan to spend about Rs.10 crore on the development of the beach mainly raising greenery and providing amenities to tourists on the lines of Tenneti Park,” VUDA Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar told The Hindu .
The VUDA was awaiting final approval from the district administration for making use of the land for the park. Right now they were working on the design. Another proposal by Mahabodhi Society to develop a Buddhist theme park at Thotlakonda had been sent to the Government for approval.
The society wanted to develop a Buddhist research centre, theme park, meditation hall, research centre and library, among others, on around seven acres. Mr. Sasidhar said the beach at Rushikonda would also be developed on seven acres and the VUDA was planning to spend Rs.1.5 crore on it.
The two beaches can be developed only by the VUDA since the areas fall in the Coastal Regulatory Zone.
