A 31-year-old man from the city, who was working with an Australian company in Victoria, died three days ago at Frankston town, according to information received here on Monday. K. Ravi Ranjan was employed with IGA Supermart in Victoria.

The only child of an Assistant Engineer of VPT, K. Ramesh and Rama, who worked as a teacher for some time, Ravi Ranjan had done his MBA here and went to Australia five years ago where he completed his MS in business administration. He was in Melbourne for the last five years.

Slips into sea

Ravi Ranjan had gone to Frankston along with his colleagues to spend the weekend. As they were fishing, Ravi Ranjan, who could not swim, suddenly slipped into the sea even as one of his friends tried to pull him by his hand. A helicopter was pressed into service to save him but he could not be rescued. For his parents who were waiting to see their son after a gap of five years, it was a huge blow. Ravi Ranjan, who got his permanent residency only on May 21, was planning to visit his parents in August so that he could attend the marriage of one of his cousins. His father is also retiring in August.

The distraught parents are now waiting at their residence in Virat Nagar in Gopalapatnam for the body of their son as the Australian officials are in the process of conducting an autopsy and preparing the coroner’s report.

The Telugu Association of Australia Inc. is making arrangements for sending the body to Visakhapatnam, which is expected to reach here by Wednesday.
