The Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIIMS) will be provided with the latest equipment and ICUs, developed with state-of-the-art facilities, Principal Secretary (Health) Poonam Malakondaiah has said.

The governing body of VIIMS, met under the aegis of Ms. Poonam Malakondaiah, who is also chairperson of the governing body, here on Saturday. Advisor (Health) Jitendra Sharma, Director of Medical Education N. Subba Rao and VIIMS director K. Satyavara Prasad participated in the meeting.

The meeting felt that the modern operation theatres under construction at VIIMS would reduce the waiting time for patients awaiting surgeries. The facilities would also enable round-the-clock surgeries at the hospital.

Ms. Poonam Malakondaiah said the government was keen on providing all modern medical facilities apart from sanctioning the doctors and nurses and staff for the hospital.

Cardiology, gastro, renal, neonatology and paediatric intensive care, sports injuries and stem cell therapy wings would be started at the institute.
