Offices of all State government educational departments will be located at Vidya Bhavan that is coming up here, Minister for Education and HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao has said.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the facility on the government land adjacent to the Chinagadili tehsildar office on Sunday, he said that in the first phase it would house the office of the District Education Officer. Gradually, it would house district offices of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan Project Officer, boards of intermediate and technical education.

The Vidya Bhavan, coming up on 19 cents at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.35 crore, would be sanctioned another Rs. 2 crore to build a meeting hall to accommodate at least 200 persons, the Minister said. The building might be a five-floor structure with all the offices and amenities.

The government was committed to improving the education sector and was making significant allocation to it, he said. To address the issue of teacher-student ratio, teachers would be transferred. However, the transfers would be taken up with due consultation so as not to cause any inconvenience. Visakha East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu presided over the function.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani, MLAs — Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, and P.G.V.R. Naidu were present. Joint Collector J. Niwas, Additional Joint Collector D. Venkat Reddy, DEO Venkata Krishna Reddy, schoolchildren, principals, and staff were present. A two-day exhibition of books was also inaugurated at the venue. “It has a vast collection on general knowledge and is useful for the schools,” the DEO said.
