Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said shying away from chanting ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ slogans and glorification of suicides by some people were part of vote bank politics.
Without naming anyone, he said some stray cases of suicides and refusal to raise ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ slogans were unfortunate. “I fail to understand how anyone refuses to eulogise his own motherland and does not feel proud to raise slogans in support of the nation,” he said during 190{+t}{+h}birth anniversary function of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule.
Mr.Naidu said that of late there was a spurt in cases of some choosing educational campuses for pursuing their vote bank politics. “We have 500-odd universities in the country but some forces are using some universities to further their vote bank politics. People should be aware of such sinister designs,” he said.
The Union Minister also wondered how raising jihadi and azaadi slogans in support of freeing Kashmir from India were not being considered as anti-national activities.
Calling for an end to caste system, he recalled the struggles taken up by Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Babu Jagjeevan Ram and urged students and youth to emulate them to continue the fight against caste-based politics and discrimination.
