‘Vamsadhara,’ Tamil historical novel written by V. Dhivakar, is translated into Telugu by Sashikala.

The book deals with the Chola history of 11th century and depicts the war between Cholas and Kalingas in a six-month period in the backdrop of events between 1090 and 1100, according to the author.

The 600-page Tamil book published in 2004 became popular, said Mr. Dhivakar. The novel is named after Kalinga ruler Ananda Varma’s daughter, known for her beauty and expertise in martial arts. Mr. Dhivakar said the depiction of events would interest people of both the regions.

Even Visakhapatnam was named Kulottunga Cholapatnam at that time, he said.

Introducing the book at a function, organised by Sahridaya Sahithi, K.G. Venu recalled the historic bases of the novel on which author depended.

The book vividly describes the relations between Cholas and Vengi Chalukyas bringing two rich cultures together.

He depicted in detail the palace intrigues, literature, culture, love, battles of that time and their significance.

Ms. Sashikala writer L.R. Swamy participated.
