Let's Unite for a Greener Tomorrow (LUGT), a voluntary organisation initiated by a group of students, on Saturday launched a campaign ‘Unplug Vizag' to turn off lights for an hour from 8.30 p.m. on March 27 to right against climate change.

LUGT, which was set up in October, 2009 in Hyderabad has been selected as a partner by WWF to campaign in support of observing Earth Hour 2010. After an encouraging response to Earth Hour for three successive years, the students now want that it should get good response among the people in the State. At a meeting, the activists of LUGT calling themselves as LUGtians have resolved to approach big industries like Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and shopping malls to switch off lights for an hour as a token of their concern for climate change and its disastrous impact on the mankind.

Director (operations) of EPDCL H.Y. Dora, who released the poster, said climate change was a global concern and each individual should contribute his best to protect the mother earth.

Lions International District Governor Vijay Kumar appreciated the initiative shown by the students and pledged the support by 26 Lions Clubs in the district in observing Earth Hour. He said the support of other service clubs like Rotary the movement should be made a grand success.

Explaining the objectives of their NGO, LUGT activists Karthik, Srikanth, Sweta, Pragathi and others said that they had decided to campaign in schools and colleges.
