An elderly woman committed suicide after poisoning her daughter and six-month-old grandson in an alleged suicide pact at her house of Devarapalle in the district on Monday morning. The elderly woman and her grandson died while her daughter was admitted to King George Hospital in the city where her condition was said to be stable.
Police are yet to ascertain the reason for the death of the two, but were saying that it was a case of suspicious death and waiting for the post-mortem report for further investigation. Kadari Pyditalli’s daughter K. Devi married K. Nanaji of Devarapalle against the wishes of her family about two years ago. Devi gave birth to a baby boy and the family members on both sides reportedly sank their differences.
A week ago Devi went to her mother Pyditalli’s house at Devarapalle along with her son and was staying with her. On Sunday night, Pyditalli and Devi consumed fish curry and some other dishes. Pyditalli reportedly brought tea and milk from a nearby shop in the early hours on Monday.
She served the tea to Devi and milk to baby after she had it herself. Devi reportedly gave some tea to the baby to keep him warm and they went back to sleep. Their neighbours knocked at the door of Pyditalli’s house around 8 a.m. and when they did not get a response, they broke open the door to find all three lying unconscious and informed EMRI 108 ambulance and the police.
Pyditalli (55) and baby boy died while Devi was shifted to King George Hospital.
