Rich tributes were paid to Amarajeevi Potti Sreeramulu to mark the 62 martyrdom day on Monday.
After observing a two-minute silence at 11 a.m. at the Collectorate here on Monday District Collector N. Yuvaraj recalled the efforts of Amarajeevi in the formation of a separate State of Andhra. His commitment to the cause of a separate State is worth emulating, he said. Joint Collector Pravin Kumar, District Revenue Officer Nageswara Rao, and other district officials were present.
District PolicePolice officials led by District Superintendent of Police Koya Praveen observed a two minute silence to mark the martyrdom of Amarajeevi.
YSRCYSR Congress Party leaders garlanded the statue of Amarajeevi on the Beach Road. Recalling the ultimate sacrifice made by Potti Sreeramulu which compelled then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to take steps to carve out Andhra State from Madras Presidency, district president of YSR Congress Party Gudivada Amarnath demanded that the State Government mark it as an official event.
“It is unfortunate that the person who was responsible for the formation of the State is not recognised by the Government,” Amarnath told the media.
The Telugu Desam Government is busy in carrying with its hype and has failed to address the basic issues of the State. This is a glaring example, he said.
Former MLAs Tynala Vijay Kumar, Malla Vijay Prasad, other party leaders Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, Gampa Hanook, Ravi Reddy, among others, were present.
