The annual Tyagaraja Aradhanotsavam would be conducted for six days from January 9 to 14, president of the Tyagaraja Aradhanotsavam Trust C.S.N. Raju has said.

Addressing mediapersons on Sunday, he said that they had to extend the annual festival to be able to accommodate more number of aspirants who wanted to pay their tributes to the saint-composer Tyagaraja.

The organising committee, under the leadership of Pantula Gopala Rao, worked out the schedule of programmes beginning Friday evening, Mr. Raju explained after the booklet on the schedule was released by director of Narayana Institute of Civil Services Veeraraghavachari.

The popular annual event has seven A Top Grade, 10 A Grade, 19 B High Grade, and nine B Grade artistes. The performers have been segregated and given time slots from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

“There are 266 concerts of 10-minute duration, eight of 15-minute, and 26 of 30-minute. Out of the 918 applications, the organisers have been able to accommodate 868,” member of trust G.R.K. Prasad said.

With the large number of nadaswaram players requesting a slot to perform at the event, the morning programme every day would begin with the auspicious nadaswaram, organising committee chairman Pantula Gopala Rao said.

The inaugural programme on January 9 evening would have member of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Suma Sudheendra light the lamp and a special feature on music of saint-composer Tyagaraja by Manda Sudha Rani.

This year, two additional features are being added, one a LecDem by Dwaram Tyagaraju and a dance programme by students of Vempati Chinna Satyam Kuchipudi Kalakshetram.

The day-long events would feature concerts by artistes of different calibre and there would be a number of concerts by groups of students, he added.
