The participants will be trained on different aspects of construction engineering before they take up responsibilities as site supervisors. The first batch of 20 participants stay in the Hostel of IGIAT and undergo a rigorous routine which includes physical training, yoga training, class-room training, practical work in field, out-door games and personality development programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramakotaiah explained that the objective of the BAI was not only to fulfil the needs of the industry in terms of manpower, but also to support the unemployed youth from underprivileged sections of the society and impart them necessary technical skills in the construction sector. Addressing the young participants, he emphasised the need for discipline and honesty to achieve greater heights in the career and advised them to utilise the opportunity to hone their skills which help them in their duties at the site.
“If these trainees work hard for the next 10 years, the Builders Association would provide them enough opportunities to pursue higher studies and make them graduate engineers,” he said.
Founder Director of IGIAT and Former Professor of Civil Engineering, IIT, Madras, P. Srinivasa Rao expressed his delight that IGIAT started this programme in line with the need of the construction industry to have supervisory level staff with necessary skills. Group Captain A. Prabhakar called upon the participants to learn with zeal and help each other in process of learning the hard and soft skills. Director of IGIAT, M.P. Srinivasa Murthy said that in line with the objectives of the Builders Association, the candidates were selected from remote parts and tribal belts of the adjoining districts and it was made sure that only the deserving candidates were short-listed. He assured that the participants would find a noticeable change in their personality at the end of the programme and they would be ready to face the challenges of the industry.
