Visakhapatnam Railway Station has been adjudged as the ‘Best Tourist-friendly Railway Station’ in Andhra Pradesh by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA). The award will be presented at the State Tourism Annual Excellence Awards – 2017 to be held at Ramakrishna Beach on the World Tourism Day on Sept 27.
The APTA award is another feather in the cap of Visakhapatnam Railway Station, which was selected as the ‘No.1 Railway Station in Cleanliness among A-1 category stations in India by the Ministry of Railways.
Visakhapatnam Railway Station was chosen for the award in view of the availability of tourist-friendly infrastructure such as seating facilities, AC/non-AC waiting halls, toilets, eating outlets, food courts, maintenance and upkeep of railway station, availability of tourist facilitation counter, pre-paid auto/taxi counters, retiring rooms, facilities for physically challenged persons like ramps, battery operated cars, lifts and escalators, according to Divisional Commercial Manager (coordination) of Waltair Division G. Suneel Kumar on Friday.
