State government’s three-day drive against mosquitoes and communicable diseases, war against mosquito and keeping premises clean, commenced here on Saturday with HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao leading officials, employees and school children and others in cleaning the beach of plastic waste.
He wanted people to consider the three-day programme as a social responsibility and not a government programme. Keeping premises clean and hygienic every day is the responsibility of every citizen, he said.
Collector Pravin Kumar, Commissioner of GVMC M. Harinarayanan, Vice-Chairman of VUDA T. Baburao Naidu, Joint Collector J. Nivas and others participated. The Minister hoped that with the cooperation of the people the city and district would be made mosquito-free and diseases-free. “If the 6.07 lakh high school students and the 38,000 government employees can effectively bring awareness among the people it is not a difficult task to make Visakha free of mosquitoes and diseases”, he said.
He wanted GVMC to take action against owners of vacant plots if they are not kept clean. Collector said an action plan is being implemented to provide safe drinking water in the tribal area.
Earlier Mr. Srinivasa Rao and officials and students participated in a cycle rally and administered a pledge to all participants on keeping the premises clean and to prevent communicable diseases.
