The trouble of cancellation

Passengers lament abrupt cancellation of flights at the eleventh hour

November 25, 2014 12:21 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:56 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Frequent cancellation of flights by airline operators at the eleventh hour is turning out to be a headache for passengers who book their tickets weeks or even months ahead of their journey. Some could have connecting flights to an international destination, others might have important meetings or an interview scheduled, pressing official engagements or calling on an ailing relative.

Bipasha, who is working for a Delhi-based NGO, was to arrive in Visakhapatnam by the SpiceJet flight on November 20 and proceed to Koraput in Odisha by road. It was an official assignment and the tour was arranged and the arrangements for the air and road travel were done a month ago.

“On November 19 night, Bipasha had received a message from the airline operator that her flight was cancelled. The airline abruptly cancelled the morning flight service and she was left with no other option to land in Vizag at a convenient time,” says her friend in Vizag, who had even booked a cab to receive her at the airport on the morning of November 20. The arrangements made for the travel to Odisha and hotel bookings had to be cancelled causing inconvenience to the passenger.

Air Costa has announced the launch of ‘Happy Hours’, a special offer for those planning their trips for the upcoming festive and holiday season. Tickets can be booked with one way fare starting as low as Rs.1499 (all-inclusive).

The booking period can be done between November 24 and 27 (till 3 p.m.) for travel between January 15, 2015 and April 15, 2015 (both dates inclusive).

The sectors connected to Visakhapatnam for offer fares are: Vizag-Vijayawada (Rs.1,499), Vizag-Bangalore and Vizag-Tirupathi (both 1,999) and Vizag-Chennai (Rs.2,499).
