The factors that make candidates reject job offers

Many graduates, who get employment offers, are rejecting them due to misinformation and peer pressure. While some are afraid of ‘night shift’, there are others who are unwilling to start in a less-known company.

The basic reason for this attitude of the employment seekers is lack of information and poor understanding of the market and expectations of the employers. The misinformation coupled with peer pressure has affected their aspirations.

“The aspirations and misinformation is a major challenge in getting students to take up jobs. Our trainers are constantly mentoring the students to help them change their attitude,” programme manager of Mindmap Consulting Vijay Kuriyan said on the sidelines of the four-day job fair organised by the AP State Skill Development Corporation at the Prism College here on Saturday. Mindmap Consulting is one of the training partners of APSSDC and runs training programmes in ITES space for students.

The reality is that due to familiarity the students tend to ignore the advice of the teachers. The government through the Skill Development Corporation should run career counselling centres for students, principal of Prism College B. Umabala said. The government tag would give it credibility among the students, she added.

“The peer pressure is a challenge and we have been trying to address it by close interaction with students,” AGM (projects) in APSSDC Vinay H said. The Skill Development Corporation is having mentors who are working with the colleges across the State and they are regularly interacting with the students in trying to clear doubts and give proper information on jobs and careers. The candidates should be aware of their limitations and be ready to join the organisation that has recruited them rather than look only known entities.
