Principal Secretary, Health, Poonam Malakondaiah has asked GVMC officials to contain the spread of dengue from peripheral areas to the city.
At a review with officials on Thursday, she said 30 % of the dengue cases reported from all over the State were from GVMC area, particularly from Simhachalam, Pendurti and Madhurawada areas.
Ms. Malakondaiah asked Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan to take up a special drive for a fortnight to contain the fevers.
The plan of action should identify the areas where cases were prevalent and appoint supervisory officers area and ward-wise. For any cases reported from those areas, the officials and staff should be made responsible, she said. GVMC should equip itself with more fogging machines.
Stagnation of water should be prevented and fogging and spraying taken up in open areas to prevent breeding of mosquitoes, she said. In multi-storied buildings, overhead tanks should be covered and notices issued for failure to cover them, the Principal Secretary said.
Screening kits
Dengue preliminary screening kits were available in all urban health centres and for positive cases immediate treatment should be given. But all the cases should be referred again to KGH and Anakapalle Area Hospital for confirmation.
Mr. Hari Narayanan wanted trained supervisory staff for deployment in various areas of the city. Two more fogging machines were expected soon. In-charge Collector G. Srijana, Joint Director, Health, Rajendra Prasad and DM&HO R. Ramesh participated.
