Student’s death: Odisha police hand over FIR

PM Palem Police question students in the college

Odisha Police have handed over the FIR copy to PM Palem police in the city to take up the investigation in the mysterious death of Shreyash Kesharwani (16), a native of Sambalpur, Odisha, who was studying Intermediate at a corporate college in Visakhapatnam.

Shreyas who reportedly sustained injuries in the hostel after allegedly being beaten up by three or four other inmates in the hostel, had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rourkela, last Saturday. After a public outrage in Sambalpur, a case was registered at Govindpur police station and it was handed over to the PM Palem police for further investigation.

According to sources, the police have collected the CCTV footage from the campus. However it was learnt that the footages related to the victim Shreyash being taken to hospital, being brought back to college, and then being taken home was available, but there is no footage on what happened inside the campus, as there were no cameras inside. Moreover, the PM Palem police have also questioned the students who were alleged involved in beating up and ragging Shreyash, here on Wednesday.

It was learnt that the students claimed innocence and informed the police that Shreyash had fallen in the bathroom and suffered injuries.

Inspector of PM Palem Police Station K Lakshmana Murthy said post-mortem report has to be released by the hospital in Bhubaneswar.
