Student drowns in well

A student pursuing his polytechnic diploma at a private college in the city drowned in a well near Dakamarri under Bheemunipatnam police station on Thursday.

P. Naveen Kumar (17) of Gajuwaka, a student of VITS College near Dakamarri, went along with four friends for a swim in an old well.

The well has steps into it and local people walk down the steps to take water directly.

Naveen did not know swimming and waited on the steps in the well while his friends swam in the water.

After his friends came out of the water, Naveen got into the water to have a feel of the water and drowned suddenly. Efforts by one of his friends to rescue him went in vain, according to Inspector T. Appala Naidu.

Body retrieved

Some local people retrieved the body and alerted the police and the college management.

The police registered a case of suspicious death.
