Most road accidents occur and lives are lost due to rash driving, according to Superintendent of Police Visakhapatnam (rural) Koya Praveen.
Addressing a Traffic Safety Awareness Campaign at Sri Prakash Vidya Soudham in Payakaraopeta in the district, the police official urged the youth to realise that life is precious and asked them to be careful while driving.
He advised autorickshaw drivers to give way to heavy vehicles and pointed out that this would avert most fatal accidents. The police would identify the accident-prone areas in the district, he told the students, youth, autorickshaw drivers and drivers of private vehicles from the surrounding three mandals who participated and made them take oath to follow traffic rules.
The SP released a pamphlet prepared by Sri Prakash Educational Institution and Narsipatnam Police Sub-division jointly on traffic awareness. The senior police officers visited the poster painting gallery and gave away prizes to the winners in debate and poster painting competitions.
PrecautionsHelmets and seat belts were essential for safety of the driver and they should not speak over cell phones while driving, ASP of Narsipatnam Vishal Gunni said. He urged the passengers to ensure that all precautions were taken whenever their children go for an outing.
Sri Prakash Vidya Soudham joint secretary Ch.Vijay Prakash promised the police officers that he would take steps to increase awareness among youngsters against talking over phone while driving and triple driving on two wheelers. Later, Sri Prakash correspondent Ch.V.K. Narasimharao felicitated the police officers.
