A plan to keep the city clean by lifting garbage directly from commercial establishments, malls, hotels, and apartments will be implemented in the city.
Zone IV of the city, which accounts for 4.5 lakh population, now has a total of 39 vehicles, including 25 mini pickup trucks, and 270 push-carts to collect garbage from the doorstep of the residents.
NGGOs Colony, Madhavadhara, Karasa, Jnananpuram, Kancharapalem, Burma Colony, and part of Malkapuram are some of the areas in the zone. With 700 apartments and 3,000 shops, it needs another 12 tippers and five mini pickup trucks to take up a better garbage collection work. Among the six zones, Gajuwaka and Zone IV are the biggest with more than four lakh population. In comparison, Zone I and VI have about three lakh population.
To directly lift garbage from commercial establishments, hotels, malls, and chicken and mutton shops, the number of vehicles has to be increased.
On Friday, Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar instructed all zone commissioners to launch the drive to directly lift garbage from such establishments.
“As of now, we have decided to deploy an additional 30 mini pickup vans all over the city for the purpose,” Mr. Pravin Kumar told The Hindu .
The city generates about 1,000 tonnes of garbage and most of it is transported to the dump at Kapuluppada. However, there has been a shortage of dumper bins and more push-carts are required to improve household collection.
Additional mini pick-up vans to be deployed for the purpose, says Pravin Kumar
