Union Steel Secretary Aruna Sundararajan on Thursday inaugurated Convertor-A of Steel Melt Shop-1 of RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

The convertor was repaired after a gap of 25 years to increase productivity with an investment of Rs.380 crore.

This is part of capital repairs and modernisation of blast furnaces and other old facilities to enhance production by one million tonne with an investment of over Rs.5,000 crore.

The convertor was revamped by introducing latest technologies without changing the original layout.

The job was successfully carried out with strict adherence to the safety and environmental norms.

During her plant visit, Ms. Sundararajan visited the Model Room and Awards Gallery and the major production units like Coke Oven Battery, Blast Furnace-3 and Wire Rod Mill-2.

RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan explained her the technical know-how incorporated in the plant.

The Steel Secretary inaugurated the conference of CVOs under the Ministry of Steel and said that the role of vigilance was multi-fold in the world of e-commerce, e-auction, and public procurement, and exhorted the CVOs to strive to bring in fairness and openness through systematic improvement and transparency.

Later, she commended RINL management for its vision, ambitious growth plans and the strategies to deal with the challenges. She made this observation after reviewing the performance of the company and witnessing a corporate presentation on Wednesday evening.

Steel Joint Secretary Sunil Bharatwal accompanied her.

RINL Directors — P.C. Mohapatra, G.B.S. Prasad, D.N. Rao, T.V.S. Krishna Kumar, and P. Raychaudhury — and CVO B. Siddhartha Kumar were present.
