Society should help people with visual impairment live with dignity and self confidence, Minister for Panchayat Raj and NREGS Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu has said.
Speaking after releasing the poster for the state-level cricket tourney for persons with visual impairment here on Sunday, he called on officials, non-officials and general public to encourage the sportive spirit of the differently abled persons.
The tourney was being held for the first time in the city. It was scheduled to be held from May 14 to 17, the Minister said. Eight teams – Bobbili, Vizag Challengers, Vizag Warriors, Tirupati, Anantapur, Kurnool, Vijayawada and West Godavari – have confirmed their participation in the championship.
The tournament would be conducted on B Ground of the YSR Cricket Stadium at P.M. Palem. All the participants would be provided free lodging and boarding. All the participating teams would get certificates and Rs. 3500. The winners get a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and runners Rs. 15,000. Visakha South MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Vizag Blind Cricket Association president S Ramakrishna and secretary M Ramana were present.
