In a significant development, as many as five units, which were incubate at Sunrise Startup Village at Rushikonda here, launched their products on Tuesday.
“The launching of commercial operations after successfully encouraging them to translate their innovative ideas into business ventures is a red letter day in promoting startup culture in the State,” Startup Village Centre Head Siddharth Ram told The Hindu.
Andhra Pradesh government signed MoU with MobMe Wireless Ltd of Kochi Startup Village fame in September last to incubate startups and organise bootcamps in educational institutions to promote entrepreneurship among youngsters. At present, 70 units are at various stages of incubation at the village. Nearly 500 applicants have been waitlisted.
The startups, which forayed into commercial operations include Red and Black (gaming startup specialising in 3D game), Quick Pebbles (house repairs through mobile app), Epic Soft (product developed on B2B platform to connect sales manager and executives by assigning tasks), Unihalt (biometric and technology-based product to help parents to have safety check on children and attendance management system) and Melon Studios (‘page for promotion’ – a digital marketing tool).
Among the five startups, Quick Pebbles, which offers electricians, plumbers and others through an online app, has already received angel funding of Rs.20 lakh. Others will take funding at an opportune time. “Once we develop a good clientele in Visakhapatnam, we want to replicate our success story in other parts,” said Nilesh, one of the promoters of Quick Pebbles.
“We are very excited with our success after toiling hard for 10 months. Now we can offer gaming on TV, Linux, Android and iOS platforms,” said founder of Red and Black V.J. Ramesh.
Launchpad
The management of the Startup Village also took the occasion to launch Launchpad, a new platform to showcase success stories, product launches and showcasing and networking.
Launchpad would see many ideas converted into products, Startup Village Manager (Operations) P. Bharat said.
