A delegation from Sri Lankan Airlines will visit the city on September 11 to study the potential demand for operation of flights to Sri Lanka from Visakhapatnam.
Members of the delegation will interact with airport officials, tour operators, and business leaders to study the potential and make a recommendation to launch operations based on the demand, according to Visakhapatnam Air Travellers’ Association (VATA) leaders Ch. Ramakotiah, P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, O. Naresh Kumar, and Kumar Raja. They thanked Union Minister of State for HRD D. Purandeswari, who represents Visakhapatnam in the Lok Sabha, for her efforts in trying to promote Visakhapatnam as an international destination.
Sri Lankan Airlines is planning to operate flights either to Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam from Colombo in the near future, according to Air Travellers Association of India president D. Varada Reddy.
The High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in India Prasada Kariyawasam is trying to impress upon Air Lanka to operate flights to Visakhapatnam as Sri Lankan Airlines withdrew its services from Hyderabad a couple of years ago.
