A special police team was formed on Wednesday to investigate into the sensational dacoity case in which the accused have fled away with 3kg of gold from a gold businessman in PM Palem on Tuesday.
Police also suspect the alleged involvement of one Rakesh and his brother, in the case.
According to police sources, after the incident was reported, a number of teams were despatched to various places in AP and Odisha.
There is a strong indication of the involvement of Rakesh’s brother and he could one among the five who participated in the crime.
Sources in the police also said the local police have contacted their counterparts in Rajasthan and it was established that Rakesh and his family members have criminal background.
As per the preliminary investigation, four other members of the gang had arrived in the city about five days ago and the gang have purchased two knives that were brandished during the crime at a high-end department store in Madhurawada, a day before the incident.
Sources in the police said Rakesh alias Lullu, hails from Rajasthan, and has initially worked in a gold shop and then started his own business to supply silver ornaments as dealer. Rakesh has till now dealt with only silver ornaments and that too in very small quantity.
The accused used to do business in the city limits as well as in Nowrangpur. Police suspect Rakesh might have financial troubles, which reportedly prompted him to commit the crime.
Rakesh reportedly expressed his desire to enter the gold business to the victim Venkat Ramana.
And basing on the trust and friendship that Rakesh developed, the victim brought 3 kgs of gold and Rakesh robbed the gold after threatening him with knives and country-made pistols, said a senior police officer.
