Smart move to give GVMC a facelift

March 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 02:17 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

GVMC literally got a new face. It’s Facebook page. One gets to know what Commissioner Pravin Kumar is doing every day that apparently focuses on his priorities on daily basis. For instance, Mr. Pravin Kumar visited wards 37 and 41 on Saturday. He saw for himself what the complaints at the call centre were.

On Thursday, he made a night visit and during the day visited SC Colony at Butchirajupalem.

The Commissioner wished citizens a happy Holi on the Facebook page.

Citizens may also post comments on the page.

For instance, Yellapu Chaitanya posted a complaint stating that the service road at Endada on the highway was encroached.

Another wanted the ban on plastic below 40 microns to be implemented strictly.

Another problem hanging fire for long is the bad shape of the Gajuwaka-Scindia road that affects the Nau Sena Baugh residents most.

The GVMC Facebook page may turn out to be the platform for citizens to air their grievances.

Mr. Pravin Kumar’s initiative is in tune with the concept of smart city with Visakhapatnam being chosen for development as smart city with the US collaboration.

The development of smart cities foresees that they would have to be fully automated so that citizens have the ability to seek and the municipal offices to deliver services in real time, through IT-based facilities.

It also aims at making public participation in governance possible through social media and by making all information available in public domain.
