The city unit of Campaign for Housing and Tenural Rights (CHATRI) has complained to the State Human Rights Commission on eviction of slum-dwellers from Sevanagar and Omkarnagar.
In the complaint on Wednesday its convener Pragada Vasu has said the action was against the objective of the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) that states that unless alternative accommodation is provided with all facilities and keeping in view the livelihood aspects, slum-dwellers should not be evicted or located.
The relocation also should take place only with the mutually agreed consent of the people of the slum. The relocation should take place only if in situ development of the slum is not possible.
Stating that throwing out 13 families onto the road was undemocratic and against human rights, he urged the Commission to direct GVMC to stop all such activities forthwith and abide by human dignity, human and child rights and act in accordance with the laid down procedures for implementation of RAY.
He also sought a direction to the State government to direct to frame a slum policy in tune with RAY scheme.
