Sepoy shoots himself in Visakhapatnam

A Sepoy of Defence Service Corps K. Subbu Raju, posted as sentry at the Naval Air Station INS Dega here, allegedly shot himself with his self-loading riffle (SLR) late on Wednesday night. The incident came to light on Thursday after the Naval authorities informed the Airport Zone police under the V Town police station limits.

Inspector of the Airport Zone E. Narasimha Rao said the DSC Sepoy, aged 47 years, was a native of Tamil Nadu, had the DSC after retiring from the Indian Army and had been posted at Eastern Naval Command a month ago. The naval authorities found the Sepoy lying in a pool of blood with a head injury and shifted him to the naval hospital INHS Kalyani where he was declared “brought dead”. A case was filed following the information received from the Navy authorities and investigation was on, Mr. Narasimha Rao said. Subbu Raju’s family members were informed and were expected to reach the city soon.
