The Indian Navy after a review decided to continue the search and rescue operation for four missing personnel, including an officer and three sailors, eight days after its torpedo recovery vessel sank off the coast of Visakhapatnam.

A Navy spokesperson told The Hindu that on Thursday a review of the SAR was held and they decided to do all it takes to find its missing personnel. Taking into consideration the prevailing drift and currents the search area has been extended up to 270 nautical miles south of Visakhapatnam. No survivor or body has been found so far, he added.

On Friday the operations would be reviewed and a decision taken on its continuation.

Indian Navy’s TRV A-72 sank 38 nautical miles off Visakhapatnam coast on the night of November 6, while on its way back after participating in a routine exercise. It was carrying 29 personnel, including seven scientists from the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, and some officers and personnel from Naval Armaments. Indian Navy ships and helicopters could rescue 25 personnel and one person died in the rescue operation.
