Hundreds of candidates made a beeline to the School of Distance Education (SDE) of Andhra University to register their examination application for the Degree and Certificate Courses on the last day on Monday. Serpentine queues of students were seen at the counters of SDE as also the bank for registration of applications. The candidates stood on the road outside braving the hot sun. They had to stand in separate queues to submit the application and for payment of fee.

Spot registration has been already been conducted by the school through its various centres at other places. The spot registration at the headquarters (SDE, Visakhapatnam) was held for three days on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The school authorities have announced through the media that students could register their applications though it happened to be a Sunday. “There was not much rush yesterday though our staff members were present in full strength. The candidates turned up in large numbers today as it is the last day for registration. We will accept the fee till the queues are cleared even if that means that our staff members would have to work till late in the night today,” SDE Director P. Hrushikesava Rao told The Hindu on Monday .

“We have already sent application forms to 30,000 candidates who are on the rolls. The candidates have also been informed that the applications could be downloaded from the university website and the fee could be paid through a demand draft at various banks. Many candidates wait till the last minute for payment of fee and all of them rush to the SDE, perhaps, to avoid payment of commission of DD,” he said.
