A young man was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police on Saturday on the charge of sending abusive messages to a woman on her mobile phone.

The accused, K. Satish Kumar (36), a journalist with a small Telugu daily, used to repeatedly send abusive SMSes to a woman, residing at Akkayyapalem in the city from his mobile phone.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Mohd. Khan said that the SMSes using vulgar language had caused mental agony to the victim and she had lodged a complaint with the police.

He said that the accused was in the habit of sending abusive SMSes to other women also.

The accused was arrested by Cyber Crime Inspector B.V. Venkateswara Rao, SI S. Ramesh and their team at the RTC Complex bus stop based on his mobile number.

Mr. Khan appealed to victims of cyber crimes, particularly harassment on mobile phone or through SMS, to lodge a complaint with the police. The police would have recorded evidence and there was no way the accused could escape punishment.

Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) Police are investigating the case.
