With the port sector poised for a big leap forward, there are a lot of employment opportunities in the maritime field, said Visakha Container Terminal COO Sriram Ravi Chander.
He was speaking at the passing-out ceremony of the students of the Visakha Institute of Port Management (VIPM) on Monday. At the function, certificates were awarded to the students of the second batch of VIPM – which is sponsored by VCT.
Handing over the certificates, Capt. Ravi Chander said VIPM was started with a view to providing opportunities to unemployed youth to acquire job-oriented qualifications. The institute offers diploma courses in container terminal equipment operations, container terminal equipment maintenance, and port operations.
Candidates in possession of ITI /diploma in mechanical or electrical or electrical electronics engineering are eligible for the first course while candidates having diploma or degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical or electrical and electronics) are eligible for the second course. Graduates are eligible for the port operations course.
Capt. Ravi Chander said the institute was set up to provide an opportunity to all those aspiring to have a good career in the port sector by imparting quality training by experts in the field and practical training in the terminal itself. The passed-out students will get jobs such as yard crane operators, reach stacker operators, and equipment maintenance technicians/ engineers/operations executives.
