The near reign of terror let loose in and around the AP High Court premises by the cadres belonging to the Telangana Lawyers' Forum and their alleged attack on judges and former Advocate-General came under sharp attack at a demonstration held at the Town Club junction here on Friday by the Chittoor district unit of the Samaikhy Andhra Parirakshana Samithi (SAPS).
Novel protest
To give a dramatic touch to their demo, the SAPS leaders blind-folded the statue of the ‘angel of justice' with a black ribbon and described it as a ‘black Thursday' when the bedlam broke out in and around the High Court premises.
The SAPS functionaries, along with the local lawyers who joined them after boycotting their courts, during their dharna, could hardly conceal their disgust at the ‘unruly' manner in which the lawyers, supposed to be the protectors of law and order, behaved towards their own judges, judicial officers and seniors -- subjecting them to both physical and verbal attacks which was unheard of in any State in India.
Disrepute
N. Raja Reddy, general-secretary of the State SAPS the highhanded behaviour of the Telangana lawyers' has caused a serious disrepute the entire judicial system of the State besides casting a deep shadow on the very image of the lawyers' in the society.
State president of the SAPS, Koduru Balasubramanyam, said the very fact that a learned judge like Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy had to submit his resignation to his post clearly reflected the demeaning and demoralising effect of the ‘anarchic behaviour' of the Telangana lawyers'.
Other SAPS leaders said that the unruly behaviour and demonstrations by the lawyers on the very premises of the High Court would do them more harm than any good, more so when the Srikrishna Committee on Telangana was currently on a tour of the State.
