Role of para legal volunteers (PLV) is very crucial in a society where there are a large number of illterates, said Principal District Judge and District Legal Services Authority Chairperson P.V. Jyotirmai on Saturday.

She was addressing the valedictory of the five-day training programme conducted for PLVs.

Ms. Jyotirmai said the permanent Lok Adalat was established to deal with public utility grievances like public transport, health and sanitation and electric complaints. People must come forward to file their grievances before the authority housed on the district court premises.

The role of PLVs was very essential in identifying the problem and bringing it to the notice of the DLSA. Several problems brought to the notice of authority were resolved immediately by proactive legal action, said Ms. Jyotirmai. Beginning November 9, Legal Services Day being observed by the National Legal Services Authority, DLSA-Visakhapatnam had lined up programmes for 10 days for spreading legal awareness.

DLSA secretary S. Damodara Rao, Chairman Permanent Lok Adalat T. Eswara Rao, Electricity Consumers Redressal Forum chairman and retired District Judge S. Dharma Rao, Forum of Legal Professionals president Kuppili Muralidhar, Juvenile Board member Abdul Raqueeb, students of Andhra University, NBM College and others participated.
