May 13, 2014 11:41 pm | Updated 11:42 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Repolling at Palakajeedi village in Koyyuru mandal, where the Maoists burnt two EVMs and a vehicle of the polling staff on May 7 when polling was held for the Lok Sabha and State Assembly, was conducted in a peaceful manner on Tuesday.

As many as 326 out of the 468 voters of the booth cast their votes and the nearly 70 per cent polling even after the May 7 incident indicated that the Girijans supported a democratic process, Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said in a statement. “They believe that development is through ballot and not through bullet,” he said.

Girijans participated in the polling in large numbers and this was possible due to the election awareness meetings and Sadbhavana Yatras conducted by the police and even higher officials were surprised by the good turnout in the Agency area, he said.

Mr. Duggal thanked the Girijans and all sections of the people for making the polling a success.
