Loss of lives and property due to the recent spell of heavy rains and the floods was greatly reduced thanks to the prompt action taken by the district administration, Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju said during a review meeting on relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims here on Monday.
“In two days the boulders and clay that fell on the roads in G. Madugula mandal have been cleared and you continue your work in relief and rehabilitation with the same spirit and provide relief to all”, Mr. Balaraju said.
Restoration of roads, tanks, water supply schemes and power sub-stations must be completed without delay and the roads needed for supply of essential commodities must be restored immediately, the Minister said. Crop loss estimation must be transparent and not farmer who suffered loss should be left out.
Collector V. Sheshadri said the relief and rehabilitation programme was going on without a hitch and being monitored at the field level. Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana said old city and Meghadrigedda areas faced inundation and 3,000 people were shifted to relief camps.
Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, MLC D.V.S.N. Raju, MLAs P. Ramesh Babu, M. Vijaya Prasad, G. Babu Rao and B. Mutyala Papa; DRO M. Venkateswara Rao, CEO of ZPP D.V. Reddy, and other officers attended.
At a meeting with the Special Officers, tehsildars and agriculture officers, who are making estimation of the loss, the district Collector said the reports must reflect exact amount of loss caused by the cyclone and every one who had suffered a loss must be included.
