An overcast sky all through the day with intermittent showers brought down mercury levels in the city on Friday.
There were reports of power lines snapping after trees and branches fell on them at a few places in the city. A tree, which withstood the very severe cyclone Hudhud, was brought down by gales on Friday morning. The branches of the uprooted tree fell on power lines and the snapped lines fell on the wall of a house at Gopalapatnam VUDA Colony.
Power supply was disrupted at quite a few places due to the gales. EPDCL workers restored power supply at Gopalapatnam VUDA Colony by around 1.30 p.m.
The rear wheel of a bus belonging to Andhra University was caught in a trench dug by a private telecom operator on the Siripuram – China Waltair Main Road, opposite the AU Assembly Hall.
Rain water stagnated on the roads at some places inconveniencing pedestrians. Clogging of drains resulted in dirty water overflowing on the roads.
Meanwhile, the trough of low pressure was continuing across coastal Andhra Pradesh. Under its influence rain or thunder showers would occur at a few places over coastal AP during the next 24 hours, according to a spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre.
