Purandeswari’s plea to Defence Minister

February 22, 2013 01:03 pm | Updated 01:03 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry D. Purandeswari on Thursday asked Defence Minister A.K. Antony to defer the recruitment of Group ‘D’ posts in Naval Dockyard-Visakhapatnam, slated for Friday.

She said to facilitate regularisation of daily wage workers of Naval Dockyard, who had put up 15 to 20 years of experience, the conditions for recruitment need to be relaxed. Hence, there is a need to defer the recruitment.

“As they are facing severe financial hardship and mental agony, they should be regularised,” she said in a letter to Mr. Antony.

There are around 545 daily wage workers and there is a notification for recruitment of 600 regular Group ‘D’ posts. The process is scheduled to begin on Friday.

Ms. Purandeswari said a board constituted by the Eastern Naval Command had submitted a favourable report to the Naval Headquarters for regularisation of casual workers.
