Exports important to generate more capital, says official

Global trade has become inevitable with the signing of the World Trade Agreement and in such a scenario it is imperative to project the ‘Made in India’ brand image across the world to sustain in the international market, said Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce Alok Dwivedi.

He was speaking at a seminar on ‘India Export Import Policy and Procedures’ jointly organized by Gitam School of International Business (GSIB) and Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) at GSIB Bhavan here on Tuesday.

Mr Dwivedi said exports were important to expand and generate more capital and also for international presence. He said DGFT was empowered to formulate the foreign trade policy to promote Indian exports and entrusted to implement the policy through its 38 regional authorities including four zonal offices.

To promote trade and cooperation among exporters, the Department of Commerce is monitoring 14 export promotion councils in the country, he said.

Assistant Director General of Foreign Trade B. Punnam Kumar highlighted the foreign trade policies and informed that there was a impressive growth in exports in Visakhapatnam region during the present financial year. He said marine products, rice, garments, steel, pharmaceutical, cashew are in exports list in Visakhapatnam region.
